There will be about 30-34 chapters in this book and will not be as long as book 5. J. K. Rowlings has told publishers and editors according to a recent news article that she does not have a deadline for the next two books, nor does she want one. Writing another great chapter into the life of Harry Potter is a process that takes time, and Rowling knows all about this.

  • [News BBC] JK Rowling has given a tiny hint of what's to come in the sixth Harry Potter book.
The top author was at the Royal Albert Hall to give a rare reading from Order of the Phoenix to 4,000 young fans.

She told Newsround's Lizo Mzimba that she was still writing the sixth instalment.

    No title clue

"There's a teeny hint of what's coming in book six from the reading I'm doing today," she said.

But JK refused to tell us what the title of the book is.

    Ohhh!

    'Fever pitch'

Thousands of excited children from all over the country were packed in the Albert Hall in London to see their heroine in person.

They had to get their schools to enter a public ballot, and the lucky schools were chosen at random.

"The excitement has reached fever pitch," a BBC reporter told us. "It's absolutely crazy. Every time a TV camera sweeps past, the kids go mad, shouting and screaming."

The Albert Hall was specially decorated for the event, and the staff were dressed in Hogwarts' robes.

The Order of the Phoenix was released on Saturday 21 June and has already become the fastest-selling book in history.

    • Comments: JK said at the Royal Albert Hall that a hint of what was coming in HP6 was in the book she is now reading. In 'Bless Me Ultima' an owl contains the spirit of a good witch named Ultima. Fawkes may carry the spirit of Dumbledore, and only when this phoenix is destroyed can Dumbledore be killed.
  • Hermione will be hurt bad, then Harry and Ron will fight together against Voldemort.
  • Harry tries to kill Voldemort but fails.
  • Book will be over 700 - 1000 pages long.
  • Hagrid goes back to school.
  • J.K. Rowling Says - J.K. Rowling says that not even her friends and family know what the sixth book will be called.
    • In a recent Interview on the BBC, Rowling has said that said that someone important dies and someone switches houses. Rowling has also indicated that Harry might date in the 6th book, possibly someone new to Hogwarts. submitted by Ben C.
    • JKR did say in an interview that Lily and James were both Gryffindors. submitted by Lucy
    • JKR said in the interivew on the DVD for Chamber that there was something small in Chamber that was going to be very big in book six. submitted by Jeannette
  • Movie Facts - The new HP movie will not be released until November 2004. So Ms. Rowling will be working on the set for it. Which means we can expect to hear about the 6th book sometime after that. submitted by Unpatient Fan
  • We will see more of Nocturn Alley in this next book, different areas and who shops there.
  • A branch of the Order of the Phoenix will begin at Hogwarts and students will join to fight Voldemort submitted by Nancy
  • Ron and Hermione will hook up, and Lupin will take over godfather duties for Harry. Perhaps Sirius is not in fact dead, and must be rescued from the veil, or maybe Dumbledore will turn out to be Harry's Grandfather. submitted by visitor
  • The mirror that Sirius gave Harry might be used to help find Sirius after all.
  • Snape - Snape's past will be revealed. Why he left Voldemort will be revealed as well. submitted by Margaret
    • Comments: We should learn soon why Dumbledore trusts Snape but the question of his loyalty should be a big issue
      before that happens.
      submitted by Sheryl
    • There was an obvious analogy between the Harry and Snape during the occlumency lessons, which I think means there might be a future cooperation between them. submitted by visitor
  • Dumbledore - Dumbledore will be killed at the end of the sixth book, Harry will have to fight Voldemort single handedly in the seventh book
    • Remember the building on that parchment which Ms. Weasley burns? We might find out about that. We might also find out how Mad-Eye Moody got his magical eye and what Dumbledore's boggart is and his greatest desire. The name Dumbledore has letters in it which spell "Mud Bleedor." submitted by Seth
    • The Harry-Dumbledore connection is possible.
    • One thing I noticed about predictions for the next book was that nobody seemed to comment on the tension between Dumbledore and Harry at the end of the Order of the Phoenix.

When Dumbledore was explaining to Harry why he didn't tell him sooner about why Voldemort tried to kill him, he says that that he 'cared too much'. He tells Harry he '......cared more for your happiness than your knowing the truth, more for your peace of mind than my plan, more for your life than the lives than might be lost if the plan failed. In other words, i acted exactly as Voldemort expects....'
Dumbledore speaks about his 'plan', which is mentioned on the previous page in the book. Dumbledore says that this particular flaw - caring too much - could be the undoing of his plan, and this could not possibly happen. He says he had fallen into a trap he had forseen, that he told himself he must avoid.

Dumbledore shows Harry that he cared too much about him, especially when Dumbledore tells Harry that he didn't make him prefect because he thought he had enough responsibility to be going on with, and Harry sees a tear trickle down his face - the only sign of real weakness we see from Dumbledore, and it shown the extent of his love for Harry.

This all hints that Dumbledore has realised that this closeness that had developed between himself and Harry - more than the bond between teacher and pupil - could actually be a weakness instead of a strength.

Dumbledore is suggesting that he needs to distance himself from Harry, if Harry is to indeed succeed. Dumbledore also hints on how to DESTROY voldemort. I angers me that people think harry is going to KILL voldemort. He died when he tried to kill harry, but it only killed his physical being, his spirit still remained. Commiting murder would not make Harry any better than Voldemort. I believe he will use ancient magic like Dumbledore did on his house, and use his heart, and the power of love to destroy Voldemort.
When speaking with Voldemort, Dumbledore says to him that '....your failure to understand that there are things worse than death has always been your greatest weakness.' Perhaps a subtle hint to Harry?

  • James & Lily Potter - although somewhat refuted in one of the films (in which I understand j.k. rowling has had much input. I think it was the 2nd…) – nowhere is it mentioned which house James or Lily were in. I seem to recall a scene of Hermoine walking with Harry past a display cabinet of quiddich trophies and James Potter’s name is engraved on a trophy as seeker for Gryffindor. But nowhere in any of the books does it ever mention James (or Lily) being in Gryffindor. Perhaps James was actually in slytherin and that would be yet another reason why the sorting hat favored it for Harry? We do know that James was a pure blood. Would makes sense that Sirius would be in slytherin - pure blood wizard family tree. Maybe they were both there together with snape – familiarity breeds contempt sort of thing and that’s why there were all those bad vibes between snape and potter/black. Lily certainly was not in slytherin but we don’t know that she was in Gryffindor, do we? submitted by Mordechai
    • The books never quite explain what animal James Potter could transform into. Prongs was his nickname and in PoA when the stag appears as Harry's patrounus, Harry whispers in astonishment PRONGS! But how could a stag fit with the nickname prongs??- This may play an important part in the upcoming books.
  • Neville - As Neville's wand broke in book 5, and his gran always considers him to be "not as good as his father", possibly now, with a new wand and new-found confidence (after Death Eaters escaped Azkaban), Neville's talent level will equal or surpass his father's? I also think he may still be important to the prophecy somehow...even though all 'wands' point to it being Harry...?
    • Its unmistakable that Neville will have a sudden growth burst of power, and the it was hinted that Ginny Weasley has and will be very strong also. submitted by Matthew
  • Draco Malfoy - Draco and Harry might mend their relationship toward the end of the book
  • Tonks - Tonks will play a more important role in the 6th book
    • Tonks is the Defense Against the Dark Arts
      teacher
  • Lupin - Lupin dies at the hand of Wormtail, Why else would a silver hand be
    significant?
    submitted by Preston
  • Fleur Delacour - Fleur Delacour will the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, but will tell everyone to call her "Fleur" instead of "Profressor Delacour". She will probably give Harry and Ron advice on girls. And since J.K. Rowling hinted that Profressor Snape might fall in love, he might fall in love with Fleur, who will redeem him and make him learn to like Harry.
  • Voldemort - Because Voldemort is now strong, and he knows that he can't get to Harry with Dumbledore and Aunt Petunia protecting him, he will attack them. If he does succeed then he can easily get to Harry. submitted by Evan, OOTP.net Contributor
    • There is a prophecy made about Harry, where it said his parents had defied Voldemort twice. We know that the Potter's worked against Voldemort, but consider if Lily and James could have spied on Voldemort and pretended to be Death Eaters. This would explain why Voldemort seems to know a lot about Harry's parents and himself. This may help explain some other things.
    • Voldemort hated James because he thinks that James stole the one that he loves and so, that's why Voldemort picked the Potters instead of Longbottom's house when he knew about the prophecy.
  • Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) - Don't you think it is odd that the whole book one person was left out and never mentioned in the book? Has anyone wondered where Wormtail, or Peter Pettigrew as we know him too, was the whole time in book 5? I think he is doing some secret thing for Voldemort but what I do not know. I just thought it was strange that he was not in the Department of Mysteries with all the other Death Eaters. Could his new metal hand that Voldemort gave him at the end of the 4th book have anything to do with something? submitted by Lauren
  • More possible rumors about book 6 submitted by Natalie
    • Ron and Hermione will NOT hook up in book 6.
They used to maybe think something was going on, but
now they have given up on that idea.
    • Harry fancies Luna. It was enforced when Harry
realized that he could talk to her about Sirius
without feeling miserable, and she can also see
thestrals. She makes him feel better
      .
    • Luna fancies Ron! Hermione is NOT happy about
      his, and neither is Harry.
    • After Harry and Hermione find out about Ron and
Luna, they get together, but they have several issues,
and break up again near the end of the book. Whoops...
    • Harry, Fred, and George get to play Quidditch
      again.
    • Our old friend the time-turner is used to bring
      back a certain "dead" godfather...
  • The Lupin/James connection is appealing. Harry exploring more of his father's misdeeds would be a good component, and perhaps coming to terms with them. Harry may have to face his own pride and bad tendencies as well. If the Lupin/James connection is correct, I'd like to see it saved for Book 7.
  • It is time for Harry to mature some more. His agonizing loneliness seems to be at an end in Book 5, although surely some sour grapes are yet to come. I wonder whether he might go out seeking a battle with Voldemort, being proactive and all, only to find the affair fails tragically. Will someone even closer to him die? Or some other innocent be injured? Will Harry have to wonder just how much like Voldemort he might be becoming? Dumbledore tried to impress on Harry that his guilt and sorrow are evidence of his humanity. He may have to learn not to repress them under his rage and vengefulness. Harry's pride should lead to a fall of some sort in Book 6, so that he can rise in respect again by the end of Book 7, a more powerful, humble and satisfying human.
  • Book 6 would be a good time to deal with the Goblins as the war
intensifies. Gringott's bank may become a locus of corruption too. Will Harry's vast treasure be lost?
  • Crookshanks - Crookshanks must be play some kind of important role later on in the books. In the 3rd book PoA Black describes him as the most intelligent of his kind. Earlier on in the book when Ron thought Crookshanks was trying to eat Scabbers( acctually Peter Pettigrew) he told Hermoine to keep rookshanks away because Scabbers was in his bag. Then suddenly the cat lunged for the bag as though it understood what Ron had said. Could it be possible that that Crookshanks may not be a cat? But possibly an animagi. Also it seems peculiar how whenever Crookshanks was near Sirius or saw his head in the fire he always tried to go to him or sit on his lap… just something to think about. submitted by Ed
    • Perhaps, as Rowling appears fond of, what if two or more plot twists hit the same subject... say perhaps, Crookshanks turns out to be a wizard, who is by definition of a pet close to the kids, and dies in the attempt to save them.. or maybe just just Hermione? One way or another, if Crookshanks (which reads like bow-legged, what the "squashed-faced" Viktor Krum is) is a wizard, she won't be able to keep him as a pet anymore... he has to go somehow! submitted by Michael
  • The idea of Dudley coming on side is a good one. However, the story seems to be leaning to some sort of reconciliation with Petunia first. I think it more likely she will be Harry's new advocate at home, if she finds enough of her own voice to do it. Dudley is a jerk. He will need another good magical walloping before coming to grips with Harry's good side I imagine.
  • Photos & Paintings - To make a talking photo, the photographer must imbue the spirit to the frame. It's like a living human being, just that you don't have a body. So you don't need to sleep or eat. Harry will get a picture of Sirius Black at the end of Book Six. submitted by Taipei
  • Apparation - Harry will be 16, so he will he be able to dissaparate? At this age, Fred and George could do it, so I am sure he might be able as well. If he can, this will probably be very handy. submitted by Evan, OOTP.net Contributor
    • In an interview concerning book two, Rowing said that something very small in book two would become very big in book six. Ever since Rowling introduced Apparation in book three, it has been made clear that no one can apparate into, or out of Hogwarts. How then did Dobby apparate out of Hogwarts while Harry was regrowing his arm bones? I believe that Voldemort and his Death Eaters have found some way to invade Hogwarts, and will do so in book six. submitted by Michael
  • Portraits - Harry will realise he's been conversing with dead people for years through their portraits, could there be a portrait of his parents or sirius ? Some explanation will be given over the creation of magical portraits. When does the portrait of Phineus Niggellus return to his portrait in Dumbledore's office?

House Elves - the magical powers of house elves will become an increasingly important subplot as they are likely to be involved in the second war; there are 200 house elves at hogwarts who could be permitted by Dumbledore to perform magic if he wishes; though I doubt they would accept freedom for their role as Hermione would wish; Additionally I feel that the fountain of magical brethren was included in book 5 as a foreshadowing of this aspect of the upcoming plots

    • Kretcher, discovering he is free to do as he pleases, will go to Narcissa Malfoy and give her all the information he knows about the Order. submitted by NyFox6
    • Maybe some of the house elves will be freed of their slavery and a band of
them led by Dobby will help fight Voldemort. In any case maybe they'll be
useful in some way against Voldemort and will all eventually be free.
      submitted by Paul

Graves - Harry has never asked about his parents graves , could they be a key to his defeat of Voldermort as his father's was to his restoration to power?

Mysteries of Death - The learned wizards who study the mysteries of death at the ministry of magic will be revealed to be conversing with those "Beyond the veil" in the stone ampitheatre

Dumbledore's Brother - The bit in book 5 where Harry thinks he recognised the barman at the Hog's head was left hanging - could this be Dumbledore's less talented brother? Remember that Harry had seen Mad-eye Moody's picture of the original order of the phoenix beforehand will Harry ( or J.K.Rowling infact ) realize that he didn't see thestrals pulling the coaches at the end of book 4 ( after cedric's death ) when they took them to the station ? Vikto Krum & Frances Delacour will return to the fray.

  • Lupin would come back as the Defence against the dark arts teacher. submitted by Kushi
  • I don't think Harry will be able to kill Voldemort with magic because Voldemort couldn't kill Harry - at least not with the wand he currently has. Will Harry get a new wand or will he push him off a cliff or something?

Dumbledore calls the room with the veil the Death Room - is the veil a type of execution device? It would explain how Bellatrix killed Sirius with just a stupefy spell.

I don't think Harry will get the grades to be an Auror but he may play quidditch professionally (or get the Dark Arts job at Hogwarts) submitted by Oz

  • Harry will get high marks on his owls, but only enough to scrape by so that he can become an auror one day. Hemione and Ron decide that they are interested in each other, but that needs to be left until book 7. Lupin confides in Harry that Sirius is not dead, in fact, he doing a secret job for the Order that Harry could not know about. The veil was actually a portkey so that the order could escape if needed. Harry gets together with Ginny Weasly in the 7th book. submitted by Kristi

  • Harry Becomes Animagus as a Phoenix

  • Harry will have Dreams about the veil just like he had dreams about the Department of Mysteries

  • I think Draco should be totally petrified by the sight of Voldemort, so he goes and fights with Harry. Harry could learn why some dead people who live in pictures can stay alive in them? submitted by Sandra
  • Sirius will come back as a ghost. Wormtail will come back to the good side but will be killed by Lupin. submitted by Mark
