Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

The place to find information about The Order of the Phoenix the 5th Harry Potter book in the series by J.K. Rowling.

Part 2 - “It is all “Relative”, you know??”
by: Dala Mahoney, 2003
Source: Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter by Galadriel Waters assisted by Prof. Astre Mithrander

There seem to many threads strewn through JK Rowling’s work that show different possible or potential “relationships”. For example we know that Dumbledore’s hair was “auburn” and Lily Potter is definitely on the reddish side in hair color. Could they be related?? Could JKR purposely try to side track us regarding Harry’s lineage? Is it possible that the reason Professor Dumbledore was kind to student Tom Riddle was he knew they were related?? Is it possible this is how Harry got “some” of his Slytherin/Voldemort traits?? We know when he tried to kill Harry when he was a baby, Voldemort passed on a few of his traits on to Harry, like speaking Parseltongue (talking to snakes). Are there more traits?

JKR has already let on that Mrs. Arabella Figg (that lady who baby sits Harry and has a “smelly” house) is really a wizard who has been watching over Harry all along, at Dumbledore’s insistence. She might be part of the Fidelius Charm to protect Harry. It is thought that all those cats of hers are also magical. It is highly reported that she may be the first female Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher!! Something JKR mentioned on a recent AOL chat session.

There are hints that perhaps Professor Lupin is really not Lupin, as JKR mentions only those very close can participate in someone’s Fidelius Charm. Dumbledore was part of this charm. It is thought that James and Lupin (the best of buddies back at Hogwarts - the authors of the Marauder’s Map, sneaky, sneaky) actually performed a Switching Spell. When Voldemort killed Lily and James Potter, Voldemort in reality killed Remus J. Lupin. Is James destined to suffer living the life of a werewolf for all eternity? Didn’t Harry think he saw his father when doing his Patronus in Book #4? Could James Potter be alive??

The name Remus comes from Romulus. The Romulus legend tells us that Remus is finally killed by his brother or brother’s followers. Lupin pays attention to Harry in a way different than other professors, i.e., he actually finds himself holding back when he wanted to touch Harry. Why would JKR write that unless as a clue there is something “relative” to his not touching Harry. Lupin made “a sudden motion with his arm, as though to grip Harry’s shoulder, but thought better of it.” Book #3, Chapter 10. He was “relating” to what Harry was saying at the moment. Would a teacher behave in this manner?? He also sure seems to know what James would think in most situations as is clear in several chapters. It will be interesting to see how this one will unfold. Could Harry finally get back part of his long lost family? Will Professor Lupin trust Harry enough to tell him the truth? And doesn’t Dumbledore always seem to “know” the truth??

Professor Dumbledore always seems to:

• Know “where” Harry Potter is physically located at any time
• Know “what” is on people’s minds. We think Professor Dumbledore can read minds!! Remember how Professor Dumbledore asked both Harry and Tom Riddle “Is there anything you wish to tell me?” Both say no.
• Be able to see through invisibility cloaks. In book #2 Professor Dumbledore seems to be speaking directly to Harry and Ron under Harry’s invisibility cloak when the School Governors temporarily suspends Professor Dumbledore from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Professor Dumbledore proclaims “help will always be given to those who ask for it.

There seems to be overwhelming evidence that Snape might be a vampire. As it “relates” to Lupin/James, we know that Snape hates James but helps Lupin with potions to maintain his werewolf aspects. We know that James saved Snape’s life back when they were in school. He has sallow skin, lives in a dungeon, is up at night a great deal of the time. And, if he could make a potion for Lupin to maintain himself he could make a potion for himself in order to go into daylight. Very interesting!! Isn’t it also interesting what choice of classes both Snape and Lupin chose. Lupin did a class on vampires and Snape did werewolves the day Lupin was out. Is there any truth and/or “relationship” to this scenario? Lastly we know Snape always vied for the Defense of the Dark Arts position, that “he fancies it” and has constantly been denied. (See Part 3 for further Snape predictions.)

The Creevey brothers and Weasley twins may have much bigger roles in the Order of the Phoenix. It is thought that the Creevey’s, all being relatively small, have elf blood in them. They will be allies in the great war. The Creeveys will help bring together house-elves all over the world with the help of Ron and Hermione (remember S.P.E.W., the campaign to liberate house-elves, the well-intentioned group that never went anywhere?). The Weasley twins will also play a bigger role as they have already proven themselves very clever wizards in their own rights with their inventions and devious plots to get out of Hogwarts (i.e., Marauder’s Map). Perhaps they will be used as spies in the war as there is evidence they have mastered time travel. Do you think they won the biggest Quidditch match of the century based strictly on luck??? Is it possible they possess a “time turner”, like the one Hermione used to take double classes. They are quite crafty wizards. The fact that they are “twins” might play a significant role in this next story.

And all good stories about triumph of “good” over “evil”, the adventure usually includes “love” relationships, the softer side: Perhaps Ron and Hermione will start dating as will Harry. Victor Krum may play into a love triangle with Ron, who will probably triumph by saving Hermione, usually from herself!! We think Hermione might visit Victor over the summer before the “war” starts. We think Hermione had a very busy summer. Once school starts, however, she will have started seeing Ron, or Ron starts to “see” her! But once war starts, Victor Krum arrives (worried about our dear Hermione) to do his best to win her affections and protect her, even though she doesn’t appear to need much protecting. Likewise, the love triangle with Harry will involve Ginny, Cho Chang, and/or a mystery girl may try to win Harry’s affection. Ginny has long had a crush on Harry as evidenced in several of JKR’s books and Cho Chang (even though a year ahead of Harry) is impressed with Harry’s bravery and assistance in winning the war of the century!

Hagrid will spark things up with Madame Maxine. Percy Weasley and Penelope Clearwater get more involved perhaps engaged to be married, and there might even be a match up between a few of the other teachers! Love is in the air at Hogwarts this year!!! Love worth fighting for!!!

Lastly, Harry himself may have interesting blood lines and relatives for that matter. He speaks Parselmouth (can talk to snakes) a proven “heir of Slytherin” trait! Remember that pesky Sorting Hat originally tried to put Harry into Slytherin but Harry chose, in a way otherwise. May be it is our choices not our “relatives” that guide our destiny. Salazar Slytherin was believed to have had green eyes also. Lily Potter had green eyes and she sure looks different from her sister, Petunia. Was Lily adopted?? Harry is known to have inherited Lily’s green eyes. Is it possible?? Dumbledore related to Lily or Harry?? We learned Dumbledore had auburn colored hair and that he was a Gryffindor. James was a Gryffindor, Harry is definitely a Gryffindor (evidenced in Chamber of Secrets when he summoned Godric Gryffindor’s sword). Both Lupin/James and James Potter were all Gryffindors too. But if Lily was adopted who were her blood parents. Very interesting “relative” relationships. Maybe we find out in book #5.

We are confident JK Rowling does not say or write something without a specific purpose. We hope the “threads of Harry’s life tapestry” brings him positive choices, good friends, and a continued sense that there are people in his life who genuinely care for him, as we have in our lives too!
